I danced my death alone (Mata Hari)

What stories are told about me. I bet none of them are true. And if they were, I made them up myself. They are so afraid of women who take their fate into their own hands. My fate was to die in front of a firing squad. I was a lousy spy, if at all. Sometimes luck runs out and I was done. To the End. Elegant of course, but I was sad that no one even said goodbye, I danced my death alone. Poet's note. Mata Hari, real name Margaretha Geertruida Zelle, was a Dutch dancer.

I was a hero, then a murderer (O.J.Simpson)

I was born poor, I died poor. I was a hero, then a murderer. Did you do it, O.J.? Did you kill your wife and that man? Those were the questions I heard. Nothing else in my life was interesting. If I did it, I probably wouldn't tell you about it. I was never convicted of murder. It was a circus. When I died, my children came to see me, even those whose mother died. Whether I went to heaven or hell, I won't tell. A Poet's Note. O.J. Simpson was a sports and movie star who was accused of murdering his wife.

No one remembers my real name (Billy the Kid)

I, an orphan boy, Billy the Kid, had met men face to face, but never seen my killer. A coward from the dark. I do not know who shot me, though my killing was boasted of and I was put on display. Billy the Kid, no one remembers my real name, hardly even myself. Even in my grave may lie the wrong man, but what joy, that even the tombstone of a thief like me was stolen. Now the tombstone is behind bars, as a thief should be. Poet's note. Billy the Kid, real name Henry McCarty, was one of the most famous gunfighters of the Wild West.

Life was no longer fun (Giacomo Casanova)

I hated being old. My death freed me from that pain. From a frail body, from my heart  that still wanted but could not have. But my body betrayed me, which was hollow. Love betrayed me, life was no longer fun. No pleasures of the flesh, no adventures. I ended up in a barren castle with boring people. What a waste. Oh Venice, I am coming. Poet's note. Giacomo Casanova is still the world's most famous ladies' man and writer.

My whole life was a struggle (Anna Nicole Smith)

My whole life was a struggle from beginning to end. Nudity wasn't a problem for me, life was. I did have my children, but my whole life collapsed when my son died after coming to see his newborn little sister. I died then too, although I was still alive. Now I rest in my pink coffin next to my son. There is no mockery from people here, no chaos, no fighting, no sadness only peace. Like Marilyn. Poet's note. Anna Nicole Smith was a Playboy girl and an actress.

I was a Blood Countess (Elisabeth Báthory)

I was called a Blood Countess, who bathed in the blood of young women, killed after kill until she was bricked up in her room. I say: The truth is always determined by the victor, who gets to tell his story. I had plenty of time to prepare for my own death. With my cold hands, I had to pray. Erzsébet (Elisabeth) Báthory was alleged to have murdered hundreds of young women.

I will never know (Olof Palme)

I always knew I could be killed, but when it happened, it surprised me. Whether I was shot by a lone madman or by a conspiracy. I will never know. I didn't even get to see the face of my shooter. I had faced tough opponents myself, but I was shot in the back. Cowards. A poet's note. Olof Palme was a long-serving Prime Minister of Sweden

They did not succeed (Rosa Luxemburg)

I would rather have died in the uprising than how I died. No. I was not lynched by a mob but I was beaten with rifle butts, shot like a dog. Then I was thrown into the canal like garbage. But they did not succeed in overthrowing justice and revolution. Poet's note. Rosa Luxemburg was revolutionary.

They wanted to go (Jeffrey Dahmer)

I couldn't stand being abandoned. It was all too much for me. I wanted to keep them with me, so they wouldn't go away. But they wanted to go. They will stay with me forever. I deserved my fate, indeed I sought it, my blood was deserved. Poet's Note. Jeffrey Dahmer is still one of the most famous serial killers.

I was a falling man

I was a falling man No one could have guessed what would happen that day. It was a very ordinary day. People still wonder who I was. I don't think it will ever be solved. Does it matter anymore? It all stems from that photo of me falling from the tower. I knew I was dying, no one could survive that. It brought a strange peace. Poet's note. The Falling Man is an iconic picture of a man falling from the WTC tower, whose identity has not been fully confirmed.

I returned (Maria Feodorovna)

I was a Danish princess, but I became Russian, my dying crown prince asked me as his last wish to marry his brother, and I fell in love with him too. I fell in love with Russia, but I had to flee, like many others. But I returned, to my husband's side to Russia of my own free will after decades. There's no need to wait for Nicky to return, we're together, the whole family. Poet's note. Maria Feodorovna was the mother of Nicholas II and the Dowager Empress.

All I had was death (Saddam Hussein)

As my death approached, I was no longer the rat they dug out of the hole. I got myself back. I didn't want to negotiate, pray, still less beg for mercy, and there was none. All I had was death. On my last night, they mocked, laughed at me, dared to offer me a hood to hide my face. Yes, I had seen death before. A note from the poet. Saddam Hussein was the dictator of Iraq .

I was never called Her Royal Highness (Wallis Simpson)

My husband  gave up his crown and his life for me, but still I did not love him, not as he loved me. I wanted to leave. But when he died, I missed him, I sought him when the light of my reason  was already going out. I was never called Her Royal Highness, but they let me  at least be buried next to my husband, who loved me so faithfully. Poet's note. For Wallis Simpson, King Edward abdicated his crown, which was a huge scandal in its time.

Not bad (Lemmy Kilmister)

I never drank milk, but even more so whiskey. Who would have thought that I would die quietly in my sleep, after playing my favorite game, for the last time, just a couple of days after my death sentence, after finishing the tour. Not bad. Poet's Note. Lemmy Kilmister is one of the biggest icons in the rock world.

I had the right to die (Noelia Ramas)

I had the right to die. I wasn't a child. My father and the judges couldn't stop me. I knew what I wanted. The pain of freedom. My life was pain. I just wanted to get away. I tried to leave myself, but the pain only increased. A person has the right to die. No one can stop that. A poet's note. Noelia Ramas resorted to euthanasia because of her mental and physical pain.

No one knows (Nefertiti)

I was famous for my beauty, though no one knows  what I really looked like. No one knows  if I was really a pharaoh, and where I disappeared to,  suddenly, never to return. Only fragments of me do you read, only fragments that survived. Perhaps you will find the answer, when a thousand years have passed. Poet's Note. Nefertiti was the wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten, who is also suspected of being a rare female pharaoh.
